The Colby Fund is currently experiencing northward momentum in annual giving and is year-to-date $1.5 million ahead in revenue over previous years. Colby now ranks in the top ten among the nation's colleges and universities in alumni participation. Colby is seeking a highly motivated senior associate director of annual giving to collaborate with the director of annual giving and advancement communications to drive forward a comprehensive annual giving program in the context of an ambitious campaign. Reporting to the director of annual giving and advancement communications and supervising a team of four, this position will oversee the engagement and solicitation program, and dollar and donor growth among alumni and other key communities of supporters of the College to achieve a $10M annual revenue goal and 50% alumni participation rate. The senior associate director of annual giving will partner with the director of annual giving and advancement communications to create and execute a strategic plan that includes individual solicitations, volunteer management, events and direct mail, telephone and electronic/social media communications, and campaigns. To learn more about Colby Advancement careers and institutional initiatives, please visit ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Annual Giving Strategic Implementation: In partnership with the director of annual giving and advancement communications, develop and execute a detailed, metrics-oriented annual strategic plan Establish and meet agreed upon metrics of success based on institutional needs, past performance, and potential Exceed aggressive dollar and donor goals in the context of a comprehensive campaign Set annual goals and metrics for success with each member of the staff, coach them to meet the objectives, and hold staff accountable for meeting goals Utilize data and best practices to help to develop and implement state-of-the-art annual giving programs with a comprehensive approach to direct mail, telephone, in-person, and digital fundraising Manage a system of actionable reporting designed to optimize the success of fundraising efforts and the dissemination of information to teammates Alumni Volunteer Mobilization: Oversee a robust network of alumni volunteers and identify ways to enhance the volunteer experience Supervise a team of four Colby Fund staff (class managers); guide strategic and tactical planning, ensure effective implementation, provide professional development, and coordinate and integrate staff efforts across functional areas Manage class giving and program operations and work closely with the Colby Fund Committee of the Alumni Council Establish engagement strategies that increase connections with the College, within the class-based structure, that promote and foster a sense of pride among the classes Partner with colleagues within the division and across campus to maximize coordination of efforts Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of annual giving prospects Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree or the equivalent in education and experience Minimum of three years of progressively responsible annual giving or equivalent experience; staff management experience preferred Proven success with annual fund fundraising and volunteer management Superb written and oral communication skills Must be flexible, have strong attention to detail, show initiative, and have a results-driven philosophy with the ability to problem-solve Unflappable in the face of multiple challenges, highly motivated, disciplined work ethic, a competitive spirit, a creative approach, and a proven ability to lead Excellent organizational skills including experience independently overseeing complex projects and programs Appreciation of Colby's mission and the ability to effectively communicate it Discretion and good judgment with confidential information Proficiency with fundraising/alumni relations databases and technology Experience with volunteer management and engagement An entrepreneurial spirit and positive attitude Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a diverse community and make an impact in a complex, fast-paced and team-oriented environment Willingness and ability to work outside normal working hours Must be willing to travel; valid driver's license required and must meet the College's Fleet Safety Policy requirements KEY RELATIONSHIPS: Reporting to the director of annual giving and advancement communications, the senior associate director of annual giving will have direct contact with division leadership, leadership gift officers, senior administration, central communications, alumni, parents, and key faculty members. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: General open office and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary. Ability to move around campus and interact with faculty, staff, students, alumni and external constituencies regularly is crucial. Travel and work outside of normal business hours are required.
