The Position At the time of hire, the stockroom manager will provide professional, administrative support for the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. The person holding this position is responsible for: Managing the stockroom and chemical storage area in the Dana Chemistry Building. Placing, receiving, and unpacking orders in support of research and teaching in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. Handling and inventorying all chemicals, and laboratory supplies. Managing and maintaining an up to date collection of relevant safety data sheets (SDS). Maintaining the departmental and individual faculty budget records. During and after the ongoing science facilities project this position may evolve to support other science departments and programs in Carnegie, the renovated Dana, or in the newly constructed science building. Additional duties and responsibilities will arise during these facility renovations and transitions. This position is 40 hours per week during the academic year, 20 hours per week during the summer. QUALIFICATIONS For this position, a bachelor's degree in natural sciences is strongly preferred and a minimum of two years of professional experience in a scientific area including experience in tracking and maintaining accountability of chemicals used in laboratories utilizing specialized software. Equivalent experience will be considered. A successful candidate for the position must have: Ability and inclination to handle details accurately. Knowledge of proper chemical labeling, storage, waste collection and waste storage. Knowledge of computerized inventory procedures and annual inventory processes. Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities with minimal supervision and within established guidelines. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to create a collaborative relationship with customers. Impeccable organizational (time, task, project management) skills. Strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships. Must be flexible, collaborative and have a positive attitude. Proficiency in basic data management systems and basic computer applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Willingness and ability to learn additional applications as needed. Ability and willingness to work weekends, evenings and other non-traditional schedules if necessary. Personal commitment to excellence and the mission of a top-tier small liberal arts college.
