Interim Project Director - Safe Passage / Camino Seguro

The Interim Director of Safe Passage will be responsible for the administrative, financial, programmatic, and personnel operations of Safe Passage. He/she will coordinate closely with the head of the Maine Office/Development Director and the Board. He/she will reside in Guatemala (Guatemala City or Antigua) and must have the ability to understand, implement, and monitor the big picture, programmatic objectives, as well as manage the tactical, day-to-day steps to attain those strategic objectives.

In this time of leadership transition and mission focus, the Interim Director must be adept at managing uncertainty and changes inherent in the evolving programmatic strategy. He/she will engage and motivate staff, students, and the Safe Passage community; partner with the board and maximize their engagement, expertise, and commitment; and provide steady administrative and management oversight.

Responsible for steady implementation of organization’s program and financial objectives; ensure that Safe Passage’s mission is the motivating force throughout the organization and that its values are practiced throughout the organization:

· Oversee budgeting and flow of funds to ensure steady progress toward goals and a proper allocation of funds to reflect present and future potential;

· Ensure that effective methods for evaluating programs are in place and used well; implement operational changes necessary for maximum success for the children and for long-term financial and operational sustainability;

· Develop and maintain relationship with the parents of Safe Passage children as well as other Guatemalan community members closely connected with the program;

· Implement appropriate personnel training and development to ensure effective and efficient achievement of objectives;

· Foster a climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates top-quality people – both paid and volunteer;

· Administer and adapt as necessary all major policies and procedures;

· Serve as a key spokesperson for Safe Passage, building dynamic partnerships and ensuring effective representation to the various constituencies.

· Work effectively with the Development Director and the Board to cultivate and solicit donors, supervise development staff, and implement the fundraising plans and policies approved by the Board.

· With the Chair of the Board, facilitate optimum interaction between management and the Board, including timely financial and programmatic reporting, virtual and in-person meetings, including key staff as appropriate.

· With the Chair of the Board, develop meeting agendas and an annual calendar to address all critical issues in a timely manner.

· Keep the Board fully informed on the condition of Safe Passage and all key issues.

The process of hiring a Head of School is expected to take 6-12 months. The Interim Director will be hired in September of 2017 as a full-time position.
