The Townsend Lab in the School of Biology and Ecology at the University of Maine is seeking a Temporary Scientific Assistant for Spring 2018. This part-time position (between 20 and 40 hours per week depending on the needs of the lab) would start Feb 1 and continue until May 30 (negotiable for up to a 6 month period depending on performance, available funds and laboratory needs). The hourly rate for this position is between $10.00 and $11.00 per hour commensurate with experience.
**Essential Duties & Responsibilities**:
The position will entail basic laboratory management, including assisting with organization and ordering, as well as assistance with research projects in the lab. All research will involve proper record keeping and attendance at our weekly lab meetings. **Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications**:
The qualified candidate should have laboratory experience, including molecular work and animal models, especially knowledge about genotyping procedures, qPCR, and mouse husbandry. Working with immunostaining and western blotting is also essential. Great job experience for recent graduates looking to gain laboratory work experience prior to the next stage of their careers. Candidates must have strong references and a willingness to learn new things and work as a team. Determination and patience are also key skills for laboratory work.
