Vice President, Assistant Controller Bar Harbor Bank & Trust is seeking a dynamic professional to join our team as Vice President, Assistant Controller. This position is responsible for supporting the accounting team in the preparation of timely and accurate closing processes including financial data, earnings releases, and footnote statement disclosures. The Assistant Controller will also ensure the implementation of accounting rules and best accounting practices throughout the company. Success will be measured by the ability to execute an effective control environment while improving operational efficiencies and process flow. This position can be based out of our Bar Harbor, ME or Newport, NH office.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Assist with the preparation of all SEC documents including financial statements, footnotes, MD&A, earnings release and other filings. Responsible monthly closing activities including journal entries, reconciliations, and technical accounting processes such as post-retirement plans, stock-based compensation, purchase accounting, derivatives, etc. Interface with external and internal auditors for periodic financial reviews.
+ Monitor, document and communicate new accounting standards, interpretations, and emerging guidance to senior management, including current and future impact on the Company.
+ Administer and enhance the Company s internal control environment regarding business processes, control activities, and self-assessment reporting.
+ Support process improvement initiatives and take strategic initiative and focus to drive special projects to completion.
+ Supervise and / or lend expertise to accounting staff and promote a team environment within the department and among cross-functional business lines.
This position requires a candidate with the following knowledge, ability, and skills:
+ A Bachelor s degree in Accounting.
+ CPA preferred, but not required.
+ Seven or more years of public and private accounting.
+ At least four years of financial reporting for a public company.
+ A minimum of three years managing a staff and department.
+ Strong technology skills including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
+ A proven ability to manage a team and communicate effectively.
+ Thorough understanding of SEC Reporting and disclosure rules.
+ Well versed in SOX and Accounting policy
